Hands-On Digital Literacy Program Empowers Legacy Residents With Lifelong Tech Skills
Close to 20 Southeast Raleigh Legacy Residents Ambassadors and other senior neighbors have completed our inaugural Digital Literacy Program. To mark their achievement and in recognition of their commitment to lifelong learning, each graduate received their very own laptop and case.
Beginning in April, our team’s Community Relations Ambassador, ReTasha Moore, in collaboration with Angela Harris with TGX Development, led two Digital Literacy Training groups. Each week for 10 weeks, eight Southeast Raleigh Promise Legacy Resident Ambassadors met Wednesdays at Beacon Point on Rock Quarry Road, while another group gathered Thursdays at First Baptist Church on Wilmington Street. Participants learned to navigate smart devices like phones, iPads, and laptops.
Thanks to support from AT&T and our partnership with the Kramden Institute, when training wrapped up in July, each participant received a laptop, carrying case, mouse, and mousepad, valued at nearly $8,000 in total.
We proudly provided this opportunity perfectly aligned with our Cradle to Career Education pillar, and hope to offer it again in the near future.
