2025 Highlights
We are excited for the year ahead as we prepare to celebrate 10 years of service in our community, and continue to pursue the vision first realized at the Beacon Site.
The stories below are a reflection of this past year and the momentum that’s happening across our four pillars—from Mixed-Income Housing and Real Estate to Health and Community Wellbeing to Cradle to Career Education to Economic Vitality, each one a testament to the promise of Southeast Raleigh and the expanding opportunities ahead.

SERP Draws One Step Closer to Delivering on the “Promise of Home”
After more than three years of planning and partnership, we have officially closed on financing for our first affordable housing development, an important step toward keeping Southeast Raleigh a place for all. The project will create 25 affordable rental homes across nine city-owned parcels, offering families quality housing near downtown, transit, and opportunity.
Construction begins this fall, with completion expected by the end of 2026. Together, we’re building our community and expanding pathways to prosperity for generations to come.

Bringing Small Business Together: First Networking Event for Rock Quarry Road Corridor Entrepreneurs
The Rock Quarry Road Corridor Small Business Alliance is hosting its first-ever networking event on September 30 at Chavis Park, bringing together small business owners from along the corridor and nearby neighborhoods. The event will offer opportunities to connect, collaborate, and access valuable resources from local Entrepreneurial Support Organizations.
Made possible by Truist and supported by the City of Raleigh, Prospera, and other key partners, this gathering marks an exciting step toward strengthening economic vitality—one of Southeast Raleigh Promise’s four pillars of community strength.

Fresh From the Community Garden
We hosted our first live cooking demonstration this summer at the Black Farmers’ Market on the Beacon Site—celebrating our Health and Wellness pillar in action. Led by Jasmine Westbrooks-Figaro, registered dietitian and co-founder of EatWell Exchange, the event featured a delicious Spicy Cabbage Stir Fry and a refreshing watermelon salad made with herbs and produce grown in our own Beacon Site Community Garden.
With support from Duke University’s CTSI and guidance from master gardener Shemecka McNeil of SLICE 325, the garden is expected to yield more than 1,000 pounds of fresh food this year, helping us grow health, connection, and community right here in Southeast Raleigh.

Paving Pathways to Prosperity with Preparation and Access to Opportunities
Data and relationships are the foundation for lasting change. This past summer, we reignited collaboration at Southeast Raleigh Elementary School, bringing together school leaders, parents, and partners to strengthen learning, belonging, and opportunity.
From boosting math and reading proficiency to building college and career pathways, these efforts reflect our shared commitment to student success and community prosperity.
