— The PNC Foundation gifted $250,000 on Tuesday to three local groups that serve children and specialize in early childhood education. Stakeholders and recipients gathered at Southeast Raleigh Elementary at noon for a speech and ceremony, which included entertainment from preschool-age singers. The three organizations receiving the grant money include Wake County Public Schools, Southeast Raleigh Promise and YMCA of the Triangle.

“We offer preschool programs for kids in tough neighborhoods, summer day camps and after-school tutoring,” said Doug McMillan, CEO of YMCA of the Triangle. “Those programs would not be possible without the support of the PNC Foundation.”

The grant money will fund a new summer “kindercamp” program at the Southeast Raleigh YMCA, which is connected to the elementary school and provides resources, education and life skills for young children and their families. Read more here.
