Publix Volunteers Help Ready Community Garden for Spring Opening

SERP Story - Publix Garden - PHOTO 4

We share a huge Thank You to 30 volunteers from Publix who joined us in April to help spruce up the Beacon Site Community Garden, located across from the pool area at the Southeast Raleigh YMCA.

We were also joined by three team members of Duke University’s Clinical Translational Science Institute(CTSI), which has provided funding this year to help with garden maintenance and supplies, and for cooking classes that will share healthy recipes and cooking tips with residents, using fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs harvested from the garden.

In addition to weeding and harvesting in the community garden, other volunteers cleared weeds in the roof top educational garden, while about a dozen more painted benches around the community garden and cleared about 15 bags of debris along the greenway adjoining the Beacon Site campus.

Please stay tuned. More is blooming in our community garden!

At Southeast Raleigh Promise, we are committed to working alongside our neighbors, partners, and funders to ensure that Southeast Raleigh residents have access to opportunities to grow, thrive, and prosper.
