Southeast Raleigh Coalition Wins Statewide Award for Property Tax Justice

SERP - eNEWS - AWARD - NC HOUSING COALITION - 102025 - P1

We’ve been awarded for impact!

Southeast Raleigh Promise, along with the Men of Southeast Raleigh, Raleigh Village East, and Southeast Raleigh Table, has received the Best Grassroots Mobilization award from the N.C. Housing Coalition!

This honor recognizes our collective, community-powered work as the Wake County Property Tax Justice Coalition around property tax justice in Southeast Raleigh to ensure fair property tax valuations for residents in six historically Black neighborhoods. Over 600 long-term residents will benefit, collectively realizing over $500,000 in property tax savings over the next two years. This doubles the impact of our 2024 appeals and relief efforts. That’s a major win for residents and neighborhoods!

Technical assistance, data analysis and support for this initiative was offered by Hudson Vaughan, through the Community Justice Collaborative of the NC Housing Coalition.

She stood alongside: Anthony Pope, Harold Mallette, Jonathan Barry-Blocker and the Rev. Rob Stephens of the Men of Southeast Raleigh; Sara Stohler and Peter Rumsey, of Raleigh Village East; and Adwoa Asante of Southeast Raleigh Table.

We are proud to help represent what community-led change looks like and how it impacts our community.
