ABC11’s Tamara Scott was on-site at the April 24 groundbreaking for Promise of Home, talking with neighbors and community leaders about what 25 new affordable rental homes will mean for Southeast Raleigh.

Longtime resident James Cannon shared why community-rooted growth matters: “We want to take the neighborhood we live in to make it better. And then other people will see, and then they’ll want to help out.”

SERP CEO Yvette Holmes spoke to the heart of the project: “We want to see improved communities. We want to see improved infrastructure. But we also want to make sure that all those improvements don’t create displacement for those who have been here for a long period of time.”

Promise of Home will bring 25 mixed-income rental homes to nine city-owned parcels along the Rock Quarry Road corridor, with units available to households earning as low as 30% of the area median income. Construction is underway at the intersection of Person and Lee streets, with completion expected in early 2027.
