Shamrock Stroll Highlights Healthy Living and Sustainable Transportation

Shamrock Stroll 2

When Spring 2026 debuted earlier this month, Beacon Ridge residents stepped out to usher it in and joined us for the first community walk of the season. Under refreshing blue skies, 15 people took a 1.6-mile stroll along the Walnut Creek Greenway Trail connected to the Beacon Site campus along Rock Quarry Road. The gathering was festively coined the Shamrock Stroll.

Rooted in the health and wellness pillar that helps guide our work in the community, the stroll also highlighted walking as a practical, accessible, and empowering mode of transportation. This event also aligns with our Central Pines Transportation Demand Management grant, which supports efforts to expand mobility alternatives, reduce emissions, and strengthen access to the varied transportation resources in Raleigh. Walkers explored how greenway access can safely and conveniently connect neighborhoods across the city, and at the same time improve physical health, reduce transportation costs, and strengthen our ties with our community – and nature.

Residents also shared their excitement about biking along the greenway as an environment-friendly and health-centered transportation option. Others expressed interest in future events focused on bike safety, route planning, and making it easier to use local bike lanes, racks, and crossings.

A huge thanks to everyone who walked with us! We look forward to more walks and more ways to build awareness, increase access, and expand ways to get active and stay healthy in our community.
