Purpose Built Leaders Tour Beacon Site For First Carolinas Exchange
We had the honor of welcoming an inspiring group of representatives from Purpose Built Communities (PBC) across North Carolina, South Carolina, and the national network to our Beacon Site Campus! Joining us was Boston Thurman (Winston Salem), Renaissance West (Charlotte), and Northside Development Group (Spartanburg).
Supported by PBC National, the Carolinas Group meets on a monthly basis to share best practices and explore ways to leverage relationships in support of the PBC model across the two states. They voted to visit Raleigh as their first group tour and exchange. Southeast Raleigh Promise is the first Purpose Built Community in Raleigh/Wake County, and the 16th in the nation.
By foot, our guests toured our thriving PBC campus and what it looks like when our Southeast Raleigh Promise four pillars of transformation, growth and prosperity – Cradle to Career Education, Health & Wellness, Economic Mobility, and Affordable Housing – come to life in one vibrant community hub.

They saw: Southeast Raleigh Elementary School; Southeast Raleigh YMCA; Beacon Ridge, a 120-unit affordable housing; Self-Help Credit Union – Southeast Raleigh Branch; and Beacon Point, featuring UNC Health & Advance Community Health, Cafe Orleans restaurant, Legal Aid NC, our Southeast Raleigh Promise headquarters and nonprofit suites, and more!
By Sprinter bus, we also guided an exploration of nine parcels of land where we will soon break ground as a small developer of 25 units of new affordable housing units in our impact area in Southeast Raleigh.
Together, we’re building a future where every Southeast Raleigh resident has the opportunity to grow, thrive, and prosper. Thank you, Purpose Built Communities, for your partnership and shared vision for equitable, community-engaged transformation.
