SECU Beacon Site

The first phase of our Purpose Built Communities place-based initiative is the SECU Beacon Site located along Rock Quarry Road in Southeast Raleigh. The YMCA of the Triangle purchased 32-acres of land along Rock Quarry Road to build a full-facility YMCA in Southeast Raleigh.

We worked with the Y and select partners to complete the development of the Beacon Site, which opened in 2019. It is home to Southeast Raleigh YMCA and outdoor pool; Southeast Raleigh Elementary School, a Wake County public school serving over 350 students; Beacon Ridge, 120 affordable apartment homes developed by DHIC, a local nonprofit, where over 275 residents live, 148 children 0-18; and the future Beacon Point, commercial-retail space scheduled to open in 2023. Each element of the Beacon Site responds to the needs of the community and provides programs, services, and opportunities essential to the success of families and the community at large.
